Create Your Calming Environment and Allow the Rest to Flow
Before the breath can deepen, the body often needs to feel safe enough to soften.
Before the mind can become quiet, the environment may need to become quieter too.
What surrounds you matters.
The sounds you hear.
The light entering the room.
The energy you allow into your space.
The pace you choose when you first open your eyes.
We often begin the day by immediately responding to the world.
We reach for the phone.
We think about work.
We remember what needs to be done.
We begin carrying responsibilities before we have taken even one intentional breath for ourselves.
But you are allowed to begin differently.
You can open the window and let fresh air enter.
You can light incense, play calming sounds, sit beneath the morning sun, or spend a few quiet moments with your plants.
You can drink your tea slowly.
You can breathe before you begin doing.
Creating a calming environment is not about making everything perfect.
It is about giving your mind, body, and spirit a place where they do not have to brace themselves.
Sometimes peace begins outside of us before we can feel it within us.
The environment softens.
Then the breath.
Then the body.
Then the heart.
Then the mind.
You do not have to control the entire day.
Simply create a beginning that reminds you that you belong to yourself before the world begins reaching for you.
Create your calming environment.
Then allow the rest to flow.
